Welcome! This is a website that everyone can build together. It's easy!

The Grammar ProjectThis is a featured page

Friendly - Wetpaint Wiki Paint Splatters"There is a satisfactory boniness about grammar which the flesh of sheer vocabulary requires before it can become a vertebrate and walk the earth."

~Anthony Burgess

The idea is to figure out how language works by playing with it and seeing how others play with it. Why did that writer use a semicolon there? How could a dash change the emphasis of this sentence? How do capital letters, hyphens, italics, etc, affect the meaning of words and sentences?

These, of course, are stylistic concernsmostly. We can start with basics on any page, figuring out what's required. But once we understand how these marks function, the fun can start. These pages should become a mosaic of both student and professional examples as well as of definitions that stretch brittle textbook notions into pliable guidelines rather than hard rules.

2010 INSTRUCTIONS

This is a wiki site developed by a colleague. While we won’t actually become members or post on the wiki, we will use it. For each assignment read the section (one the left side of the page) which explains the grammatical concept listed in the schedule. Then find an effective example of the grammar concept in the reading you do for your classes or in your personal life (NOT from the wiki website or some other grammar website) and then analyze in a few sentences why it is effective and how it works. Please indicate where you found the example. Instead of posting it on the wiki, you will post your example with a citation (author/title) on Vista. In addition you will post detailed responses to two students’ posts—these must engage the sentences and explanations they post, going beyond merely saying, “I like your sentence.” Each student is responsible in making sure other students correctly understand the concepts presented.

I have been interested in joining this activity for sometime now. Unfortunately I've had 3 surgeries and long hospital stays. Will there be more activities in the future? If the answer is yes... when will they commence? Thank you.

I enjoyed the Edmundson essay; his passionate expressions; his personal view of students and the modern day college classroom, at the very least, it got me thinking.
